Biden Administration Nominates Matthew Glavy as Marine Corps’ Top IT Officer

Maj. Gen. Matthew Glavy is the Biden administration’s pick for deputy commandant for information of the Marine Corps.

If confirmed, Glavy will replace Lt. Gen. Loretta Reynolds, who has held the role since July 2018.

The deputy commandant post, first introduced in 2017, encompasses responsibilities similar to that of chief information officers in other military service branches, FedScoop reported.

According to the Marine Corps website, the deputy commandant for information is in charge of plans, policies and strategy for operating in the information environment. He or she also identifies requirements in doctrine, manpower, training, education and equipment in support of Marine Air-Ground Task Force operations in the information environment.

Glavy leads the Marine Corps Forces Cyberspace Command at Fort Meade, Maryland. He assumed leadership of the command on July 2, 2018.

His previous assignments include serving as assistant deputy commandant for aviation with the Marine Corps Staff and director of current operations at the U.S. Cyber Command.

He also had various assignments in the operating forces such as weapons and tactics instructor and embark officer for the HMM-261 unit, aircraft maintenance officer and executive officer of the HMM-265 unit, and commanding general of the 2d Marine Aircraft Wing.

A graduate of the United States Naval Academy, Glavy holds a bachelor’s degree in systems in engineering and master’s degrees in military studies and strategic studies.
