CISA Joins Working Group Promoting ‘Secure by Design’ Product Development

The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency has joined the Minimum Viable Secure Product Working Group to promote “secure by design” product development.

The working group offers organizations a checklist to enhance security at multiple stages, ensuring “secure by design” principles are followed throughout the development process.

The coalition, composed of technology companies and organizations, encourages tech firms to take ownership of their customers’ security outcomes while using their products or services, CISA .gov reported.

Besides encouraging companies to make security their top priority, the working group also helps organizations ask the right questions when procuring new products.

Aside from advocating for “secure by design” development, CISA is also involved in other efforts to ensure the U.S. is protected from attacks led by malicious actors. To ensure it can carry out its mission, the agency is requesting a $116 million budget to address the workforce shortage and technology upgrades as it works to improve national cybersecurity.

CISA is also scheduled to launch a cyber incident reporting system designed for the nation’s capability to address cyberthreats.
