Login .gov Names New Director Amid Biometric Technology Pilot Program
Hanna Kim, the incumbent deputy director of Technology Transformation Services, will take over as director of Login .gov, effective May 11.
On Wednesday, the General Services Administration announced that Kim will succeed Dan Lopez-Braus, who will be a TTS senior adviser. Before Login .gov, she spent five years at Amazon, helping develop artificial intelligence-based technologies that could be used to scale policy enforcement.
Kim’s appointment comes after the website announced it will be testing biometric technology for identity verification, allowing users to take a “selfie” to protect against fraudulent activities, FedScoop reported.
The biometric technology pilot is part of the government’s initiative to align the website with the Digital Identity Guidelines developed by the National Institute of Standards and Technology.
The incoming Login .gov director will head several initiatives starting in 2024, including the development of next-generation identity proofing capabilities, an effort being carried out with several contractors, including Carahsoft Technology, IDEMIA Identity and Security USA and TransUnion.
