National Cemetery Administration Continues Veterans Legacy Memorial Modernization
The Department of Veterans Affairs’ National Cemetery Administration will improve its Veterans Legacy Memorial online platform to speed up responses to veterans’ pre-need eligibility determination requests for burial in a VA national cemetery.
While the NCA has already reduced the time needed for answering such requests to a few days, Matthew Quinn, VA undersecretary for memorial affairs, told the Senate Committee on Veterans Affairs that the agency could bring down the time needed to evaluate and respond to pre-need eligibility determination applications to a few hours using automation technologies, GovCIO Media & Research reported.
Recent updates to the VLM include adding more veteran profiles buried in VA national cemeteries worldwide to increase public access to such information.
The NCA expects another expansion of the VLM later in 2024 to speed up the processing of Presidential Memorial Certificates and applications for headstones, markers and medallions.
At the Senate hearing, Michael Figlioli, director of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, a non-profit veterans service organization, described the VLM as the industry standard for digital modernization.
