NIST Releases Draft Resources on GenAI Risks, Standards for Public Comment

The National Institute of Standards and Technology is seeking comments on four draft documents focused on generative artificial intelligence created in line with an executive order calling for new strategies to harness the power of AI.

The first two draft documents will each focus on the strategies to identify generative AI risks and software development practices for generative AI tools and dual-use foundation models and serve as a companion to NIST’s AI risk management framework and Secure Software Development Framework, respectively, FedScoop reported.

NIST also provided a draft of recommendations for reducing the risks of synthetic content and a document outlining a plan for developing global AI standards.

The agency will accept comments until June 2.

NIST also launched a new program seeking generative AI technologies for evaluation to inform the work of the U.S. AI Safety Institute within the agency. Technology registration for the NIST GenAI program will begin in May.
