Space Force Aims to Improve Launch Operations Through DOD Bootcamp

The U.S. Space Force is looking to modernize space launch operations through a recent Department of Defense National Security Innovation Network bootcamp.

At the Vandenberg Space Force Base in California, members of the Space Launch Delta 30 participated in a program that saw them undergo hands-on exercises and develop innovative solutions to address several limitations of the Spaceport of the Future.

The bootcamp was designed to equip its participants with the skills needed to creatively tackle complex problems, the Space Force said.

Nic Meliones, an NSIN bootcamp coach, said that the program seeks to deliver the most effective solutions to address real-world problems by incorporating feedback from users.

The Space Force has been focused on addressing shortcomings from within that hamper operations and technological advancement. Chief Master Sgt. Ron Lerch, senior enlisted leader for Space Systems Command’s Intelligence Directorate, emphasized that the lack of existing standards for components and interfaces is hampering possible collaboration between the United States and its allies.
