RigNet Adds ‘Break Out’ Feature to CACI’s SteelBox Federal Mobile Communications App
CACI International has expanded the capabilities of its secure federal mobile communications application, called SteelBox, with the addition of a new feature from RigNet, a technology company that specializes in customized communications services.
RigNet’s “Break Out” feature now enables SteelBox app users to establish communications with non-app users, but data security would only be provided on the app user’s side. The SteelBox app concept originated from a partnership with BlackBerry and was billed then as the first secure and certified mobile communications app that allows government officials to securely make texts or voice calls using their smartphones, CACI said.
Built on the SecuSUITE for government software, Steelbox addresses the security needs of over 4M government-issued cell phones that adhere to Controlled Unclassified Information safeguards. The app also eliminates vulnerabilities found in cell phones that are non-compliant with Federal security standards.
Dab Kern, CACI senior vice president for corporate capabilities and technology integration, said the app has paved the way for new lines of secure communications for government users, especially at a time when such capabilities are more critical than ever.
In addition, SteelBox features compliance with the National Security Agency’s Commercial Solution for Classified program requirements and has been included in the agency’s list of certified mobile solutions.
Citing RigNet’s 40-year commitment to delivering secure, highly reliable telecommunications to customers, company SVP for government services, Jamie Barnett, expressed delight in partnering with CACI and BlackBerry in a strategic venture into the government sector to expand SteelBox connectivity.
Headquartered in Arlington County, Virginia, CACI provides expertise and solutions aimed at addressing enterprise and mission challenges. The company has been recognized as Fortune World's Most Admired Company and is a member of the Fortune 1000 Largest Companies, the Russell 1000 Index, and the S&P MidCap 400 Index.
