Thomas Gillespie

Thomas Gillespie is currently the Director of the Department of Defense Information Analysis Centers (IAC), under the oversight of the Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering and the Defense Technical Information Center (DTIC). In this position, he oversees the operational management of, and policy guidance for, three IAC Basic Centers of Operations and a multiple award contract (IAC MAC) in technical research and analysis valued at $28 billion. With thousands of scientists and engineers throughout the U.S. and overseas, the IACs provide strategic studies and build communities of interest in areas of critical importance to the DoD, including cyber operations, weapon systems, and homeland defense.
Prior to his current position, Mr. Gillespie served for 25 years in the U.S. Marine Corps in the communications field as an enlisted Marine and officer, retiring in 2009. His assignments included a variety of command and staff positions in communications and Operations Research, both in the continental U.S. and overseas. Upon retirement from the Marine Corps, Mr. Gillespie served as a Senior Analyst for the Program Assessment and Evaluation division of HQ, U.S. Marine Corps, Programs & Resources. He accepted the position of Deputy Director of the IACs in 2013 and became Director in 2015.
Mr. Gillespie holds two Bachelor of Arts degrees in Philosophy and Classics from Santa Clara University, a Master of Arts in Philosophy from Harvard University, and a Master of Science degree in Operations Research from the Naval Postgraduate School.
